The Brisbane Sisters of Mercy established a transitional employment unit (the Mercy Supported Employment Unit) in 1989 with the mission to assist people with intellectual disabilities into open employment. In early 1994, the Congregational Leadership Team of the Sisters of Mercy adopted Bridgeworks as a Mercy Sponsored Ministry and on the 8 July 1994, Bridgeworks Personnel Ltd was registered as a business name. In the later part of 1994, Bridgeworks was successful in tendering for Case Management Services with the Employment Services Regulatory Authority, a forerunner of Job Network.
In 1999, Bridgeworks moved away from Job Network towards other State and Commonwealth programmes.
Today, Bridgeworks is a widely successful Registered Training Organisation and employment agency. Since January 2009 we have enjoyed over 400% increase in active student numbers, and continue to grow and support Job Seekers, Migrants and those wanting recognition for their existing skills.
